9 Christmas Events Happening in Metro Vancouver

Surrey Tree Lighting Festival

Cafes throughout the city are boasting menus with peppermint and gingerbread, the evenings are illuminated with twinkly lights, and cheer can be felt around, meaning it’s officially time for holiday events! Here are nine festive events happening in Metro Vancouver to get you into the holiday spirit.

Surrey Tree Lighting Festival & Holiday Market (Saturday November 25th & Sunday November 26th)

The festival includes live performances on the Snowflake Stage, a tree lighting ceremony, PIANO Moments with pianist Jani Jakovac, local vendors, fun games, prizes, holiday food trucks, photos with Santa, and much more! On the Saturday, you’re invited to watch the tree lighting ceremony taking place at 6:30 pm, and on the Sunday, taking place on the Snowflake Stage at 7:00 pm is Unite for Light, where the community will come together to help keep Surrey’s Christmas tree shining bright from a mischievous plan to turn off the lights by a green and grumpy guest.

Bright in Burnaby (Saturday December 2nd)

Experience the tree lighting ceremony at Burnaby Village Museum. Carousel ride proceeds during the event will go to the Burnaby Christmas Bureau, and Concord Pacific will be matching the donations.

Burnaby Heritage Christmas (Various Times Saturday November 25th – Friday January 5th)

Burnaby Village Museum transforms into a holiday celebration for Burnaby Heritage Christmas. Enjoy seasonal entertainment, demonstrations and activities, and carousel rides. Additionally, from December 16th – 22nd, for every photo taken at their photo booth, Concord Pacific will donate $2 to Ryan’s Rainbow, in support of hunger relief in the City of Burnaby.

Winter Holiday Celebration at Roundhouse (Saturday December 9th)

This family-friendly celebration will include face painting, wonderful festive lighting, photos with Santa, cookie decorating, ornament decorating, live musical performances, and more!

CandyTown in Yaletown (Saturday December 2nd)

The free outdoor winter festival returns, with holiday characters and performers, horse carriage rides by donation to the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, a live ice decor show, and a holiday gift market.

VanDusen Festival of Lights (Friday November 24th – Sunday January 7th)

This magical event showcases an illuminating light display along with tasty eats for the whole family to enjoy!

Bright Nights in Stanley Park (Thursday November 30th – Monday January 1st)

Returning to Stanley Park, the Bright Nights train takes you through a magical light display.

Vancouver Christmas Market (Various Times Thursday November 16th – Sunday December 24th)

The holiday market at Jack Poole Plaza is filled with delicious eats and drinks, Christmas karaoke, holiday vendors, artisan shops, a light display, a walk-in Christmas tree, and more!

Christmas at Canada Place (Friday December 1st – Tuesday January 2nd)

Take in the spectacular light display, including “Chrismoose,” which is the 15-foot-tall moose light sculpture, Sails of Light, and Avenue of Trees.
